Security
We are committed to providing you a safe online environment. That's why we use sophisticated technologies to ensure that your personal and financial information is kept secure.
To ensure that your transactions are protected, we require that you use a browser that supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. The following browsers are compatible:
- Netscape Navigator 7.0 and higher
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher
In Netscape versions prior to 4.0 , you can tell you’re in secure mode when you see a key icon at the bottom of your browser screen, and the key is unbroken.
Netscape Version 4.0 and beyond (as well as Microsoft's Internet Explorer) will display a lock. If the lock is in a locked position, you’re in secure mode.
Operating System Patches
Occasionally, vulnerabilities are discovered in programs on your computer.
When found, the program provider will offer a “patch” to fix the
weakness. Often these problems arise when hackers attempt to access PCs that
have not been fortified. To check for patches and updates, visit the program
provider’s website.
Microsoft users can visit: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com which
will automatically check what’s required for both operating system and
browser, then download the results at your request.
Please note: Account Access, E-Bill and our secure portal are not compatible for use with Macintosh clients or other interactive television browsers, such as WebTV.
What about E-Bill?
E-Bill is secure and uses the SSL (HTTPS) encryption. To verify the code is actually using this encryption process:
- Watch the lower left corner of your browser window, which displays the URLs as you navigate through the E-Bill pages.
- You’ll notice that the URL begins with HTTPS:// - this identifies the connection is using SSL encryption.
- An encrypted connection lets you know that data transferred between your PC and the E-Bill server is well protected.
Passwords
Passwords are the key to your online account information. Avoid using the same password for all your online business, as you’ll increase your risk if anyone discovers it. We strongly advise you to have a unique password for our Account Access service.
Use the following rules when choosing your password:
- Avoid using the same password for different services.
- Avoid personal information – don’t use passwords that can be easily guessed, like children’s or pets' names, birth dates or telephone numbers.
- Never store your password on paper or any electronic device - we strongly recommend that you do not store your password where someone else could find it.
- Never disclose your Account Access username or password online - we will never ask you to provide this information as part of any initiative or email campaign.
- We recommend you change your password every 90 days.
Ensure E-Bill Email Delivery
Spam-filtering software and Internet Service Provider email delivery guidelines can interrupt our ability to communicate with you via email.
If you plan on enrolling in E-Bill, simply enter aaebilling@billing.com into your filtering software's "white list" or add it to your email address book. This ensures you’ll receive email notifications from our E-Bill payment service.
